Alcorn State University (ASU) is a historically black land-grant university in Lorman, Mississippi. It is the second-largest traditionally black university and the fifth-largest college in the state. According to the U.S. News & World Report rankings, ACU is ranked among the Top 25 HBCUs in the nation.

History

The first black land grant university in the U.S. was founded in 1871. Alcorn State University received its name in 1974 to represent the new program development.

Academics & Campus

The main campus is located in an unincorporated area in Claiborne County. ASU has a Nursing School and the Business School's Master of Business Administration program located in Natchez, Mississippi. There is a class center in Vicksburg. Within its seven colleges, ASU offers 50+ areas of study. The Commission accredits it on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The university is also a member school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Alcorn State University has nearly 3,700 undergraduate and 600 graduate students.

Athletics –Braves

The sports teams compete in the NCAA's Division I as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The women are Lady Braves, and the men are Alcorn State Braves.

The Braves athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, football, tennis, and track and field.

The football team has won 17 conference championships. The men's basketball team has six regular-season wins. The women's basketball team has 16 regular-season wins, and the men's tennis team has won 8 conference championships. Go Purple & Gold!
