Abilene Christian University (ACU) is a private Christian university in Abilene, Texas. The U.S. News & World Report consistently rates the university as a top regional university in the West.

History

A.B. Barret and Charles Roberson came up with the idea to form a school in West Texas. The Churches of Christ in Abilene agreed and offered their support. J.W. Childers sold Barret the land for the university. In 1906, Childers Classical Institute was founded. The name was changed to Abilene Christian University in 1976.

Academics & Campus

The 272-acre campus is one of the largest private universities in the state and maintains one of the 200 largest university endowments in the nation. Within its seven schools and colleges, Abilene Christian University offers 164 areas of study, 79 baccalaureate majors, 35 master's degree programs, and three doctoral degree programs. ACU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is home to 100 student organizations. There are a total of 5,293 students enrolled.

Athletics –Wildcats

The Wildcats are charter members of the Division I Southland Conference.

The Wildcats' athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, tennis, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, and track and field.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, tennis, and track and field.

Since 2009, the university is fourth in NCAA history in team national championships with 57 wins. The women's track and field team has won 22 national championships, and the men's team has won 32 NCAA National Track and Field Championships. Go Wildcats!
