Keep Wearing Your Face Mask, WHO Advises About New COVID Variant

Listen to the Facts

Do you see a lot of bare faces out in the wild lately?

Yes, the rumors are true that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are more relaxed now when it comes to mask-wearing. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) strongly urges otherwise (People Magazine).

In a news briefing on June 25, 2021, the WHO claims that vaccinated people should keep wearing face coverings and practice other pandemic-related safety precautions. This is due to the latest variant of COVID-19 called Delta.

Dr. Mariangela Simao, WHO’s assistant director-general, says, “Vaccine alone won’t stop community transmission…People need to continue to use masks consistently, be in ventilated spaces, hand hygiene…avoid crowding.”

While most of us want to rip our masks off like we’re Grey's Anatomy surgeons, it’s like Rocky says: “Ain’t nothin’ over till it’s over.”

Beware of the Highly Contagious Variant

On June 23, 2021, a People article states that Delta cases have doubled in the last week to 20.6%. In a White House briefing, Dr. Anthony Fauci expresses his concerns about unvaccinated people. He says, “The Delta variant is currently the greatest threat in the U.S. to our attempt to eliminate COVID-19.” Also, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of WHO, infers that the Delta variant is “the most transmissible of the variants.”

The Delta variant is affecting the lives of people across the globe. Therefore, we all need to be cautious and protect those who are not vaccinated.

Children under 12 are still defenseless against the virus, along with immunocompromised people or anyone who has yet to be vaccinated. Because of this, please continue to wear your masks in public. Especially when indoors!

Sadly, the pandemic is not over yet. The Delta variant is highly contagious, so be wary and stay healthy! Do your part and save lives.
