Western Oregon University (WOU) is a public university in Monmouth, Oregon. The 2015 U.S. News & World Report ranked the university 77th best among regional universities in the west.

History

In 1856, Monmouth University was established initially by Oregon pioneers. It merged with Bethel College in 1865, becoming Christian College. The Oregon State Legislature approved the college's bid to become a state-supported teacher training school in 1882, and the school was renamed Oregon State Normal School. The institution was renamed Western Oregon State College in 1981 and became Western Oregon University in 1997.

Academics & Campus

Within its two colleges, Western Oregon University offers bachelor's degrees, master's, and AB. Master's degrees are offered in Management and Information Systems, Music, Criminal Justice, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Education. The colleges include the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Education.

Enrollment at WOU is roughly 6,000 students. The Greek system at the university consists of one non-traditional sorority, one non-traditional fraternity, one traditional sorority, and one traditional fraternity.

Athletics -Wolves

The sports teams compete in the NCAA Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The Wolves athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, and track & field.

The women's basketball team won numerous NAIA national titles. The baseball team has won ten consecutive conference titles since the year 2001. The men's basketball team has won back-to-back conference titles. Go Wolves!
