History

The Morrill Act of 1862 granted federal lands to the state of New Hampshire to establish an agricultural-mechanical college. In 1866, the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanics Arts was born. It was first located in Hanover in association with Dartmouth College. In 1923, Governor Fred H. Brown signed a bill to rename the college to the University of New Hampshire. It was incorporated that same year.

Academics & Campus

The campus consists of eleven colleges and schools. There are schools in Manchester and Concord as well. As of 2018, UNH's combined campuses made the largest state university system in New Hampshire, with over 15,000 students. It was also the most expensive state-sponsored school in the U.S. for in-state students. The university offers 2,000 courses in over 100 majors. There are also 22 study abroad programs for students to choose from and nearly 250 student organizations.
