Texas A&M University—Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC or A&M-CC) is a public research university in Corpus Christi, Texas. It is classified among R2: Doctoral Universities—High research activity and belongs in the Texas A&M University System.

History

In 1947, it originally opened as the University of Corpus Christi, operated by the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT), as a private university. In 1970, the campus was almost destroyed completely by Hurricane Celia, and the university couldn't afford to rebuild. The Texas Legislature assisted in building a branch of the Texas A&M University System. BGCT sold the campus to the State shortly after that. In 1989, it was finally renamed Texas A&M University—Corpus Christi.

Academics & Campus

The campus covers a 396-acre area and comprises six colleges and two schools. TAMU-CC offers 33 undergraduate majors, 25 graduate programs, and six doctoral programs. In the Fall of 2018, 11,929 students were enrolled.

The university is home to six Multicultural Greek Council organizations (Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpa, Lambda Theta Alpha, Omega Delta Phi, and Sigma Lambda Gamma), four National Panhellenic Sororities (Zeta Tau Alpha, Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Delta Delta, and Alpha Gamma Delta), and three Interfraternity Council Fraternities (Sigma Pi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Phi Gamma Delta).

Notable alumni at A&M-CC include Cassandra Jean, actress, and model; Kevin Palmer, basketball player; Kim Henkel, screenplay writer/producer/actor; Larry D. Wyche, United States Army Lieutenant General; Paulette Guajardo, politician; Raul Torres, Texas politician; and Robert Gammage, Texas politician.
