Lafayette College is a private liberal arts college in Easton, Pennsylvania. It is considered one of the northeastern Little Ivies as well as a Hidden Ivy.

History

In 1826, James Madison Porter and other Easton citizens founded Lafayette College. It was named after General Lafayette, a hero of the American Revolution. That same year, the charter gained state approval from the legislature and Pennsylvania Governor John Andrew Shulze. Lafayette was established as a liberal arts college with religious equality provided to professors, students, and faculty. In 1854, the college became affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.

Academics & Campus

The campus is located in the Lehigh Valley on College Hill. The 340-acre area comprises 69 buildings, including a 230-acre athletic campus. The college offers a B.A. in 37 fields, 14 B.S. degrees, 10 in areas of science, and four in engineering. The most popular majors are in the fields: Biology, English, Engineering, Psychology, and Social Sciences.

In 2015, the total enrollment was 2,533. The student body represents 46 states and territories, along with almost 60 countries. The campus provides 250+ clubs and organizations such as athletics, community service clubs, fraternities, and sororities, honor societies, and special interest groups. There are roughly 39% of students who are members of Greek life.

Athletics -Leopards

The sports teams compete in NCAA Division I as Patriot League members.

The Leopards athletic teams include:

Women: basketball, cross country, fencing, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Men: baseball, basketball, cross country, fencing, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, and track & field.

According to the most recent NCAA study, Lafayette College is ranked 3rd nationally in student-athlete graduation success rates. In 1896, it was the first non-Ivy League school to win a national football championship. Go Maroon & White!
